Devanshu Raj Singh

Hi! I'm a PhD candidate at UW and freelance tutor based in Los Angeles, with a background in AI and tech policy research. I tutor bright, ambitious middle- and high-school students in a wide range of subjects — from math and computer science, to writing, SAT/ACT prep, and college and selective school applications. I work with students both remotely and in-person in the West LA area. While I cannot guarantee outcomes, working with me will significantly advance your student's academic goals. I charge $100/hour, and accept payment via Venmo, Zelle, direct deposit, or check. If you're interested in booking a session, feel free to email me or text me.

About me: I'm currently a PhD candidate, researcher, and Teaching Assistant in Political Science at the University of Washington, where I study how AI can be governed in line with democratic principles. I also teach writing-focused sections to undergraduates. Previously, I worked as a data scientist at C4ADS, using modern data science techniques to investigate illicit networks in global security. I earned my Master of Science in Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, where I also completed my undergraduate studies. In my free time, I enjoy great storytelling in any form — from the Mahabharata to The Dark Knight Rises — and love exploring my hometown of Los Angeles.
My approach to tutoring: I'm especially experienced in helping students learn how to write effectively in the age of ChatGPT. I believe that learning to write well is the same as learning to think well. I also make math fun and intuitive by focusing on conceptual understanding. Having personally navigated the world of competitive school and college admissions, I'm deeply familiar with both the academic and emotional challenges of the journey — and I'm confident I can help guide your student through it. I love teaching, and I love helping students develop a lifelong appreciation for learning. I look forward to working with yours!
